Barru is the capital of the parish of Nuestra Señora de los Dolores de Barru, which also includes the towns of Niembro and Balmori. Barru is now an eminently tourist town, in which second homes and urbanizations, chalets and campsites abound. In the oldest nucleus of the town, offshore, it is still possible to contemplate houses of traditional Asturian architecture.
