Celoriu, capital of the parish of San Salvador de Celoriu, is a nucleus of about 350 inhabitants widely dispersed in a wide territory of the llanisca coastal plain, barely 20 meters above sea level. In 1117 the monastery of San Salvador was founded in Celoriu, an important landmark of the coastal Camino de Santiago, which had at least since 1198 a pilgrim hospital.
