Urban nucleus of the Sierense parish of La Carrera, located at an altitude of 200 meters, with a population of more than 2,500 inhabitants. It is a communications hub, where they converge from the old Oviedo Ssantander national highway to the so-called coal highway between Siero and Langreo, or several railway lines, which determined the growth of the town since the middle of the 20th century. It has a large service and industrial sector (furniture industry, meat products, mechanics).
